Dr. Stephanie Hampton has been named the new director of the Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) and professor in the Department of Environmental Science & Policy. A distinguished aquatic ecologist, Dr. Hampton brings extensive experience to these roles, including her current position as deputy director of Biosphere Sciences and Engineering at Carnegie Science. Dr. Hampton received her bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Kansas. She later earned her master’s in biology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and more recently a doctorate in ecology and evolution from Dartmouth College.
The appointment will see Dr. Hampton lead TERC’s research and outreach initiatives, addressing both the unique environmental challenges of Lake Tahoe and broader ecological issues. Her leadership is expected to enhance the center’s role in advancing impactful environmental science.

Dr. Hampton joins the department beginning in Spring 2025.
