Department professor Jim Sanchirico was recently awarded the Publication of Enduring Quality Award from the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists on June 1st for the following publication: Sanchirico, J. N. and J. E. Wilen. Bioeconomics of Spatial Exploitation in a Patchy Environment, Journal of Environmental Economics Management, 37(2): 129-50, 1999.  The paper was part of Professor Sanchirico's dissertation that was completed at UC Davis in 1998.  The nominating committee stated “this paper is a transformative contribution that changed the way economists and others see the world. It did this by laying out a new framework for understanding the role played by space and spatial mechanisms in systems of living organisms."
