Emma Underwood and Hugh Safford Featured in UC Davis Books Blog

Emma Underwood and Hugh Safford, two of our staff in Environmental Science and Policy, are editors of Valuing Chaparral: Ecological, Socio-Economic and Management Perspectives. The book was chosen to be featured on UC Davis Books Blog's most recent post.

Valuing Chaparral: Ecological, Socio-Economic and Management Perspectives calls for the preservation of chaparral shrubland ecosystems, a highly biodiverse yet highly flammable ecosystem commonly found in the world's Mediterranean-type climate regions. California is one of such regions. Chaparrals are in danger because of the rapid urbanization in the United States. Chapters in the book detail chaparrals' biodiversity, various ecosystem services that may help with preservation, and history of human interactions with chaparral ecosystems.
