Hugh Safford analyzes destructive California fires to inform fire and resource management

A study on 2020 California fires by authors Hugh Safford, Alison Paulson, Zachary Steel, Derek Young, and Rebecca Wayman concludes that destructive (not restorative) fires "were part of an accelerating decades-long trend of increasing burned area, fire size, fire severity and socio-ecological costs."
